Understanding trauma responses

Trauma triggers can feel overwhelming, but they are not signs of weakness. They are often our mind and body trying to protect us after difficult experiences.

Healing can begin with understanding what’s happening inside us, responding with compassion instead of self-blame, and finding grounding techniques that help us feel safe in the present moment.

Small acts of kindness towards ourselves matter.

If you’re struggling with trauma responses, you don’t have to face them alone.

An important part of healing from trauma is understanding that our ‘high alert’ response when we’re not in danger anymore are from the instinctual amygdala still trying to keep us alive. Its not our fault.

We can manage trauma triggers with grounding techniques, such as repeating a chosen phrase or looking at a photo of loved ones.

After our triggered response has passed, we can lessen the impact of self-blame by speaking to ourselves with kindness and understanding.
